Once a Cedarian, Always a Cedarian (Chapter One)
I went to Cedar's 50th Anniversary yesterday. And boy, it brought back a lot of memories. I and P.H.Y.S.I.C.S couldn't relate to the new building; we belong to the old Cedar building but PurringFeline and Ms Beautiful Legs could identify many things with the new building because they studied there. Letting them lag behind, I hasten to the old track. Still mystically beautiful despite it looking so rundown and overgrown with weeds. This was the place where I learnt my first Cedar cheer (first day of school, we had our orientation and the prefects led all the newbies there), I practised Dikir Barat for Cedar Nite (and admiring my oh-so-capable seniors), ran for Sports Day (when we were in Sec 1), had our Hari Raya concert and of course, the morning jogs cum Singapore Workout. How can anyone forget such memories? I grew up here. I had my first crushes here. I'm still hanging out with friends I made in Sec 1. I had a lot of my first in Cedar. That's what made Cedar very endearing to me.
When I reached home, I looked through the old Cedar photos. Compared to the ones I took earlier on. Gone was the building where I and my friends used to have our classes; the creepy Art Room, the latch where we used to sit and admire the track or watched the Band practising, the super danky toilets as well as the Staff Room. I remember sitting in class and smell the rain coming. I recall the girls were complete expert in changing from the uniform to the PE shirts and vice versa.
No more Grandstand where we would hang out after recess. No more canteen where we used to sabotage one another during birthdays. And the changing room, where I tried to avoid going as much as possible for the rancid smell that it always emitted.
Those are memories that will always live in me. And my friends. To all the Cedarians..
